NURSEMAID SEEKS COMPENSATION
STRUCK BY EMPLOYER'S SON
UT.KSS A3SOCIATIOB TKLEaiiAli.) WELLINGTON, May 4. Decision was reserved by the Arbitration Court yesterday, in a case in which Eileen Coyle, a spinster, claimed compensation from Donald M. Campbell, of Hastings, for the permanent partial disablement of her left leg. The claim arose out of the action of defendant's young son in striking her across the knee with a piece of wood after he had been punished for a misdemeanour. Plaintiff, in evidence, said she had been employed by the Campbells as a nursemaid for nine months when the incident occurred. The son had been playing with the fire, and she had smacked him. He had then picked up a piece of wood from the side of the hearth and struck her across the knee. She had felt sick and dizzy, and had knocked her knee against tlie hearth. The defence argued that plaintiff did not have suitable avenues of employment closed to her.
