TANKER'S NARROW ESCAPE
HAWSERS BURNED THROUGH HV LIGHTNING CAPE TOWN, May 3. During a midnight storm at Durban the crew of a large tanker heard a whiplash report, and the two fourinch ropes securing the stern of the tanker to the wharf hurtled through the air. A lightning flash had burned through the ropes. The vessel was hauled back to its moorings only after a desperate struggle.
