SPORADIC VIOLENCE GOVERNMENT VICTORY NEARLY COMPLETE DENIAL (HAT JAPANESE ARE IMPLICATED MESS ASSOCIATION— I>I LLBCTUtC TELEORAI'U— tOI'YnIOHT.) (Received May 5, 11.20 p.m.) MANILA, May 4. With the last scattered outbreaks of the short-lived Sakdalista insurrection rapidly being smashed, the Philippine authorities to-day moved swiftly to arrest the leaders of the rebellion. Fifty-seven are reported to have been killed in the outbreaks. Sporadic violence was reported today, indicating that the revolt is still simmering. A roaming band of Sakdalistas killed a truck driver and injured two labourers. Bulacan constabulary detachments were sent to investigate a report that several hundred rebels were mobilising for a renewed attack in that province. ! The acting-Governor. Mr Joseph Hayden, declared that the Philippine Government had no suspicion or. evidence that the Japanese were in any way implicated in the rebellion. This announcement followed reports that Bengino Ramos, representing himself as leader and envoy of the Sakdalista party, was j in Tokyo seeking support for the ! movement against the American Government, i Mr Hayden said, however, that ofI ficials considered Tokyo should be requested to extradite Ramos. The Japanese Consul-General (Mr Kimura) denied reports that the movement was influenced or backed In- the Japanese authorities. 'it is reported from the United States that the Governor, General Murphy, wiio is undergoing medical treatment, expressed the intention of returning to the Philippines as soon as his health is restored to undertake the improvement of economic and social conditions in the disaffected areas.
