THE POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK
TO TUB EDITOB OS IHE I'RISS Sir,—When I penned my complaint regarding inconveniences at the Christchurch Post Office I hardly expected to be rebuked from "Sleepy Hollow" (Nelson), the little town that domiciles so many superannuated Government officials. However, you will see from the heading of this letter that I am accepting your correspondent's official knowledge of the correct title which should be accorded the institution that takes our money and so obligingly provides income tax officials with the amount of interest we receive for the temporary loan. Your correspondent is suspiciously conversant with official matters, and it is pleasant to know that the service is "riddled with vigilance officers" attending to our safety. If this is so it is rather a pity these guardians—during the neriod of great activity which he described—do not make themselves useful by assisting the "apparently nonchalant" teller. Let me. however, make myself ciear. I have the greatest rcsnect and admiration for postal and money-order ofreials. They are a courteous, longsuffering, overworked bodv of men—handlings hundreds of thousands of pounds for the salaries accorded some of the favoured dustmen of our local City Council. My comolaint was a centime one and penned in the hone *hat the watchfulness necessary in the interests of customers' safely w?s not wu-t of their already overwhelming iob.
