NOTES ON THE RACING I"TITR PRF.3S Special Service.] HAMILTON, May 4. Having her first race for F. J. Smith, Muriel Bond, who disappointed in several previous races, won the Introductory Handicap well at the finish. She was never further back than third, and Smith let her go in the straight. The winner is by Worthy Bond from at: Advance mare, who left a good winner in Mild Derby. Ranfurly Lass, who was not well placed in the early stages, came into the picture half a mile from home, and she improved her position at the turn and finished on to be a useful second. Ranfurly Lass is a three-year-old by Peter Bingen from Hal Lady. Worthy Boy, a full brother to Worthy Cause, who w;.,s favourite on each machine, ran a creditable race into third place. He was handy all the way, but failed to run on when the pressure was applied. Lack of racing experience was against Worthy Boy, who will improve. Cherrill, who was one of the leaders for about a mile, did not have the bOst of luck in the final run, receiving a check when Kia Kaha broke. or> usefullv to finish fourth. Kia Kaha was in front to the turn, where he bobbled, and although he showed up again in the straight, he broke badly to drop out of the contest. Bismuth, who w; s never in the picture in the early stages, finished strongly in fifth position. The winner paid a surprisingly good price for one of Smith s contingent.

Favourite Wins Great Admiral, the each way favourite for the Learning Handicap, began smartly to be handy to the leaders, Meadow King and Native Tree, inside three furlongs, and leaving the straight he was in front. Meadow King kept the favourite busy along the back, but a mistake by the grey let Great Admiral go on to win by two lengths. This was only the winner's third race, and made his second success. He was driven by his owner, J. T. Paul, who was havin" his second drive since his accident at. the Auckland summer meeting. Meadow King ran easily his best race to date, and he beat the rest just as easily as Great Admiral beat him Until he made a mistake half a mile from home, Meadow King was keeping step with the favourite. He ran up handy again rt the turn, but had no chance with the winner in the race to the judge. Audo Patch, after a slow beginning, trotted very solidly over the last six furlongs and finished well into third place. The Hawke s liav mare, Native Tree, trotted usefully and until she became unbalanced at the home turn looked a likely third She was fourth, several lengths ahead of Captain Bolt, who lost ground at the start. Five Runners The scratching of Jackie Thorpe, Realty, War Paint, and Nimbus reduced the Cambridge Trotting Cup field to five runners. Francis Lincoln a sound- favourite. Manco went to the front and led for a mile and a half, but the pace was slow, the other four runners being bunched in behind him. Francis Lincoln made a move three furlongs from home, and led into the straight, but in the run home Homeward came away to beat the favourite comfortably. The winner was well handled by S.M. August, and she was assisted by the muddling pace for the majority of the journey. When pulled out for the final effort Homeward had' too much speed for the opposition. This was her first win at two miles in an important race and her first success for her Taurang'a owner. Mr A. lies. Francis Lincoln was always going in a useful position, but with the slow pace he pulled hard and appeared to take a good deal out of himself. When he hit the lead the favourite looked to have a good winning chance, but failed to withstand the fast final dash of the winner. Prince Pedro, after trailing the field for a mile and a half, moved up and was right up handy when the straight was reached. He did not go oh at the finish and third was the best he could do. Pukemiro, who broke badly crossing the top, was fourth, and Manco last. F. J. Smith Again Rare Rey gave F. J. Smith his second winning drive for the day when he won the Hautapu Handicap in a great finish, in which Lady Amanda,

Kewpie's King, and Winaway took a prominent part. Rare Rey went away steadily, and when Lady Amanaa and Native Cole bobbled at the straight entrance. Smith went to the front to win all the way. The winner paced boldly, and finished on splendidly when challenged in the run home. Lady Amanda added another second to her long list and had she not broken earJy would have given Rare Rey more trouble, although she may not have beaten him. Lady Amanda was nicely handled by C. Moran and she finished very strongly. Kewpies King showed a glimpse of the form that made his performances so attractive last season. He was handy at the turn, and ran on solidly and should be all the better for the race. He was onlv a head behind the second horse. Winaway, who made a very slow beginning, did well to be a head away, fourth, and with a little more luck will, do better. Native Cole and Alexis were in it for more than a mile, but faded out. Won all the Way On the strength of his fine showing earlier, when he finished second to Great Admiral, Meadow King vyas elected a good each way fancy for the Bardowie Handicap, and the grey horse justified the public confidence by winning easily from end to end. Meadow King trotted more solidly than in his first outing, and he never gave the opposition a look in, winning with ridiculous ease by seven lengths. 1. Roe, who drove him. has made a great improvement in Meadow King since the Auckland February meeting. Worthy Princess was in second place for a mile, but broke and gave way to Native Tree, who went on to get second money, well clear of Captain Bolt. Native Tree, like the winner, is a product of Native King, who was a high-class trotter, and will make further improvement. Captain Bolt trotted soundly over the last mile, and hung on to keep Audo Patch out of third place. The latter made a bad lapse six furlongs from home. Otherwise he would have been in the money. Rose Marble, who was very wide out. was next to finish. Finished Well After making a faulty beginning, Bingen Chief ran up fast along the back, and taking charge approaching the home turn, went on to win by a length from Impromptu and the each way favourite, War Paint. Pukemiro began best and was attended by Lady Coronado and War Paint for half a mile, when Bingen Chief with a fast run joined them. War Paint went right back, and Impromptu made a sharp dash to be up behind Pukemiro and Bingen Chief, while Kewpie's Guy also moved up to be handy at theturn, where Bingen Chief had charge. Impromptu challenged the leader in the run home, but could not reach him, while War Paint came from last to be in third place. Once he settled down the winner paced boldly and showed a fine turn of speed in going after the field. He displayed rare staying power in the run home, and when started at two miles will do well. Impromptu ran a great race from 72 yards, and showed that he is among the best horses in the Dominion. He was forced to cover some cx"»ra ground along the back and across the top, and finished courageously. War Paint was going well until she lost her position, and dropped back last. She finished solidly into third place and was running on at the end.

Bismuth Wins Going away better than in his earlier start, Bismuth was always .well placed in the Brentwood Handicap to iinish on well and win nicely from Muriel Bond, who was penalised 36 yards for her previous win. Bismuth was never further back than fourth, and improved to second place at the turn. In the run home Bismuth stayed on solidly and Kave J. T. Paul his second success for the day. This was Bismuth's second success and he won impressively. Muriel Bond ran a great race and it was only in the final stages that the winner got the advantage. She has made fine progress for Smith. King's Play, who was badly placed for a considerable part of the journey, put in splendid work in the straight to finish third, and he will do belter next time out. Tinokaha, who began like a flash, was early in front and tried to win all the way. A break in the the last 50 yards cost him third place.

PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY (fsl'ECItL TO THE TB.r.SU.I HASTINGS, May 5. As rain has fallen at Hastings during the last 24 hour*, the track will bo on the dead side for the second day of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's meeting. Royal Lineage is giving away lots of weight to an inferior class in the Kavamu Hurdles, and as lie has not raced for a considerable time, a well-sea-soned opponent like Diamond may give him a lot of trouble. Royal Feast is very well just now and won decisively last Saturday, but in the Tomoana Handicap he will meet Royal Mimic and Unexpected on much worse terms. The Lowry stable has Plato and Kotou engaged in the Juvenile Handicap, and tiie best of the pair may beat Lacquer. Big Dook registered a good performance in the Hawke's Bay Cup on Saturday, but Sunny Sky, too, went well, and she may reverse the positions in the Jubilee Handicap to-morrow. Neither Creed nor Gainsfid had good passages, and as they were close up at the finish they arc entitled to espcct, but Sunny Sky appeals most. Alby and Quaint both ran well over a short course on Saturday, but figure as acceptors for the Akitio Handicap (nine furlongs). King's Lancer was undoubtedly unlucky on Saturday, and should run well here. Queen's Pride may be dangerous. Hatuma, who put up a good performance to win at Waipulrurau on Easter Monday, did not run on Saturday, but is engaged ir the Twyford Handicap, and should again run well. Passion Flower (who carried 2-Jlb overweight when she won last Saturday) must again be respected, as her performance was a solid one. If more judiciously handled than was the case on Saturday, Sunny Mcid would be a possibility. As R. Reed may ride Coronilla in tiie Okavva Handicap she must again be dangerous, but in the class engaged .Souchong should not lack support. The acceptances are:—
