Arrangements have been made by the Automobile Association, Auckland, with the Main Highways Board for the preservation of one of the old rock slabs placed on the Great South roafl by soldiers during the Maori Wars. This rock, which was at a bend in the road between Ramarama and Bombay, frequently projected through the loose metal and caused violent jolts to innumerable motorists. Mr George Henning, a veteran driver, can remember the bump at this spot in the early days of motoring. The association intends, with the permission of the Franklin County Council, to mount . the rock on a roadside cairn.
