Members of the Auckland Council of the Now Zealand Alliance enjoyed a laugh at a recent meeting when the secretary reported that a football trophy, which had been presented to the Auckland Rugby Union some years ago, was on display in the window of a local hotel. The trophy bears the inscription, "The New Zealand Alliance (for the abolition of the liquor traffic) Football Trophy." The council decided to suggest that the Rugby Union might arrange for some more suitable place for exhibiting trophies. The Broadcasting Bor.rd will shortly receive a request from farmers' organisations in the Manawatu to extend the breakfast musical session beyond the present closing time of 8.30 a.m., states the "Evening Post." Many farmers with large herds do not sit down to their morning meal till 8.3 C and later, and they ask for a little musical accomp miment. Versailles streets were recently blocked for an hour by 300 Paris taxidrivers, who were protesting against the refusal of the municipal authorities to allow them to organise a joint passenger service from Paris to Versailles and St. Cyr. A. 21-year-old motorist admitted at Reading Police Court, near London, that he could neither read nor write.
