Mr Justice Johnston arrived in Christchurch from Wellington on Saturday morning. He will preside over sittings of the Supreme Court here this week.

Mr J. Richards Smith, who has been a member of the literary staff for 23 years, including 12 years as an editorial writer, has been appointed associate editor of the "Evening Post," Wellington. Mr F. Williams, of the firm of Courtaulds, Ltd., England, is visiting Christchurch. Mr Williams is a director of Lustre Fibres, Ltd.. a subsidiary company through which the firm's products are distributed in New Zealand.

The founder of Rotary, Mr Paul Harris, cf Chicago, will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow morning. He will be met at Lyttelton by members of the Christchurch Rotary Club and will attend a civic reception at the City Council Chambers at 11 o'clock. At 12.30 he will attend the Rotary Club luncheon.

The loss of many old members of the Canterbury (New Zealand) branch of the Navy League is recorded with deep regret in the annual report of the branch for the year 1934. Those names mentioned include Sir Henry Wigram, Colonel J. Studholme, Professor J. Macmillan Brown, Dr. F. G. Gibson, Messrs J. Anderson. M. F. Earnett. G. Jameson and J. Wallace.

A tribute to the work of Mr J. J. Dougall and a record of the loss to the branch through his death is contained in the annual report for 1934 of the Canterbury (New Zealand) branch of the Navy League. The report Recalls that Mr Dougall v«-as a member of the branch for 25 years, and its president for 15 years of that period.

W. .Pearce will take charge of the insurance business at the head office in Wellington, and Mr A. D. S. Duncan becomes manager of the firm's branch at Masterton. It is also announced that Messrs A. D. S. Duncan, L. Goldfinch and W. R. Robson are appointed to the board of directors. Mr K. D. Duncan has assumed the position of secretary to the company.
