SAVAGE CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

A SUCCESSFUL SEASON REVIEWED The forty-second annual general meeting of the Christchurch Savage Club was held in the club rooms, Masonic Hall, on Saturday evening. The Great Chief, Savage H. H. Hanna, presided over a gathering of about 60 mehibers. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said that, in spite of numerous difficulties, the season had been a mbst successful one, and the standard of entertainment had been kept up. He was very grateful to the various officers of the club, who had worked hard during the year and had been largely instrumental in making the season such a success. The club had paid a visit to the Wellington Club, where wonderful hospitality had been shown. The Timaru Savage Club had also raided the Christchurch Club and had entertained with a most enjoyable programme. The secretary presented to the Great Chief a bound copy of the records of koreros, meetings, and various activities of the club during the last yeat and thanked him for his help and advice. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Savage W. S. Mac Gibbon; vice-presidents, Savages Robinson E. Hall and M. J. Burns; secretary, Savage J. E. Mason; treasurer, Savage W. J. le Cren; auditor, Savage W. S. NeWburgh; committee, Savages A. W. Brown, C. G. Curtis, A. Donaldson, H. B. Duckworth, J. D. Godfrey, Jas. Lorimer, R. A. Malcolm, and L. G. Wellbrock. Savage Harold Beck Was appointed musical director and Savage Noel Newson official pianist. Savage Hanna then welcomed Savage W. S. Mac Gibbon to the chair and wished him every success in his new office. He said he felt sure that his position as Great Chief during the coming year would prove a happy and successful one. The new Great Chief was greeted with hearty applause. He thanked Savage Hanna for his very kind remarks, and said that when he looked at the names of the past Great Chiefs who had occupied the position he occupied that night he felt greatly honoured that he had attained the highest office in the club. He looked forward to a prosperous year. After supper .Savage A. E. Loach gave a very interesting talk on his trip to Australia last year, when he attended the opening of the Sydney Savage Club, which was affiliated to the clubs of this Dominion. Savage Noel Newson gave a pianoforte solo, and the singing of the closing ode and "The King" brought the gathering to a close. The opening korero will be held on Saturday, May 4.
