The barometer fell to 29.85 in on Saturday afternoon, but was steady afterwards. Wellington--Wintry conditions were pxperienced in Wellington during the week-end. A strong southerly blew throughout, with intermittent heavy showers. During Saturday in the Upper Hutt valley, however, the weather was perfect on Saturday. Dunedin—The weather was fine and pleasant on Saturday, \yith bright sunshine and a light north-east breeze. The maximum temperature was 60 degrees. Yesterday was also line, the sun shining throughout the day. About midday the barometer fell sharply. FORECAST (From readings taken at 4 p.m.) General Situation—A depression ofT the East Cape is moving away; an anti-cyclone is still centred east of Otago, while a depression covers the .western Tasman Sea. Winds—South to east at first north ts( farewell Spit and Kaikoura, othervise east to north and freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough at first: between Cape Campbell and East Cape and in the Cook Strait area, but moderating; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea —Moderate to fresh north-east, to northerly winds, moderate seas.

Weather—Some rain still probable Jn parts of the east coast of the North Island, especially between Hawke's Bay and East Cape; elswehere fine. •Temperatures becoming milder.
