PRICE OF MILK

TO TUS F.iuroa Of I'HE PHE.-.S. Sir. —In your Thursday's issue. what appears to bo an interview with Mr J. S. Moore on the price of milk, Mr Moore say:;, "It is not iikely, in fact, quite unlikely, that there will be a further increase in the price of milk." This statement is supposed to be supported by other members of the Dairymen's Association. It would be of interest to know if this is the official opinion of the Dairymen's Association. The only material improvement in (he milk position is seasonal; th:.l is, ihe dairymen plan to have the majority of their herd for supplying the city come into profit during April and the beijinnini; of May, and occasional ones cominr; into profit during the remainder of ihe winter to help keep up the supply. These circumstances of their own accord bring about an improved supply during April. I do not know Mr Moore, but I should imagine that he is only a dealer in milk wanting to buy as cheap as he can. There is not the least doubt that milk will rise !o Is feme .shilling) gallon wholesale this winter. It. may not be ~ary for Mr Moore to in - crease the price 1o the consumer if he can manage wilh -Id to 3d margin; it is to be hoped he c:m. If Mr Moore's views are those of the Dairymen's Association, the best thing they can do is to have iheir annual meeting, which is due now. —Yours, etc.. DAIRYMAN. April irs. 1935.
