AUCKLAND APPLE GROWERS
TO TUB EITIOB or TUB PHRSS. Sir,—Could anything be more like Gilbert and Sullivan standards than the recent reported proposal to compensate the Auckland growers of Delicious apples for their neglect to keep their orchards free from codlin moth? Tn actual fact, an orchardist pays a tax of .Is an acre, s:i r 'h lax being devoted to research work and other incidental improvements in inspection and combating of diseases peculiar to fruit. In reading this report. 1 have come to the conclusion that it would be in the interests of fruit growers in general if these Auckland growers were prosecuted for failing to keep codlin moth in check. If they say this is impossible, then they should chop their trees down and get on to some other line of farming.—Yours, etc.. EARWIG. March 29, 1935.
