The resignation was accepted with re- , gret, and it was decided to place on record appreciation of his services. Mr A. C. Fraser was appointed treasurer. It was decided to close the courts I for the season on April .13, and the date of a closing dance and presentation of trophies was left to the social committee. The North Canterbury Tennis SubAssociation wrote chanking the club for the use of its courts for the championships. WAIAU The annual dance of the Waiau Ladies* Croquet Club was held in the Public Hall, Waiau. The hall had been decorated by the secretary and committee. Competition dances were won by Miss A. Beaven ■ and W. Thompson and Miss Scales and M. McDonald. Music was played by the Waiau Band. The club's funds will benefit considerably. WOODEND ' The committee of the Woodend Library held the annual meeting on Wednesday evening. Mr J. Forbes presided. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory credit. TAI TAPU The annual general meeting of the Tai Tapu Golf Club was held in the Tai Tapu Ilall on Wednesday evening, when the president (Mr W, G. Macartney) presided. The secretary, Mr A. Thompson, presented the second annual report which stated that the season had been successful, the new course having met with general approval. The winter had been exceptionally wet, but the links committee had made considerable improvement by draining the worst areas. It was found necessary to employ a greenkeeper, relieving the members of the committee, and at the close of the season the greens were top-dressed and sown. The club membership now stands at 51. The men's championship was won by J. Bain, while the women's championship was won byMrs D. Macdonald (senior) and Mrs J. Mackenzie (junior). Expressions of sympathy were passed with Mr W. H. Sowden in the death of his wife, who was an active member of the club, and also with the club captain, Mr J. Bain, in his illness. Mr Gavin Turnbuli (treasurer) presented the balance-sheet which showed a credit balance of £lB 2s 2id. An offer of a trophy for the women's section from Mr Sowden was accepted. It was proposed that the club consider the question of establishing club rooms and that the committee be empowered to enter into negotiations with Mr J. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes. Nurse Maude and Lady Wigram had signified their intention of being present. Mr Thompson arranged to have children's sports, and the various competitions were arranged. The committee arranged for a bus to leave Rink Taxis at 2 p.m. LITTLE RIVER Mr A. V. Hutchinson, Okute Valley, Little River, who will sail from Wellington on the Ruahine at the beginning of April for a trip to England, has been the guest of honour at several dinner and farewell parties, given by relatives and friends. Mr Hutchinson intends to return to Little River in about six months.

HORORATA The annual meeting of the Hororata branch of the Plunket Society was held in the parish room on Thursday afternoon. Mrs G. Grigg presided. During the year the president (Mrs L.. Acland) had resigned owing to her visiting England. The secretary had sent letters of appreciation to Mrs Acland and Mr and Mrs Ingram, who had also left the district, for their assistance. The treasurer, Mrs J. Ballagh, submitted the balance-sheet, which showed a good credit. Mrs Grigg referred to the successful year, and welcomed Mrs E. Dennis's twin babies as being the first since the inception of the Hororata Plunket branch. PREBBLETQN Two friendly matches were played recently by the Prebbleton Cricket Club. In the first, played at Walt-ham Park against n. Waltham team, Prebbleton were all out for 40 runs. J. There was a good attendance at the harvest festival sale of produce. The Rev C. H. Kendon gave a recital and introduced Mr W. Scott, of New Brighton. to act as auctioneer. Approximately £24 was raised. TEMPLETON The quarterly -vestry meeting of St. Saviour's Church, Templeton, was held recently. Mr L. Sonne presided. The quarterly' financial statement showed a debit balance. It was decided to make a special appeal to-morrow, when harvest thanksgiving services would be conducted. It was also decided to hold a concert in aid of the funds early in May. There was a fair attendance at the weekly euchre tournament held in aid of the Plunket funds. The prize-win-ners were Mrs A.
