In a three rink match for the Edmondson Shield the holders (Nelson) defeated the challengers (Maitai) in all three rinks. Fire Outbreak A five-roomed dwelling in Church street, owner by Mr W. Kirby and occupied by Mrs M. James, was partially destroyed by fire on Saturday night. Mrs James was in Murchisoa at the time, and the house was unoccupied. The fire had a good hold liefore the alarm was given, but the brigade confined the fire to one side of the building. The house was insured for £250 in the Alliance office, and the furniture by Mrs James for £SO in the State Office. The superintendent and a number of firemen were in Blenheim, but the team which answered the call worked well under Deputy-Superintendent P. Westrupp. Yachting: .The third and final sailing race for the Harris trophy was held under good conditions. There were 14 entries for the race, which was won by the Sea Mew, sailed by K. Weldon. The Smuggler, sailed by B. Castles, was second, followed by Rose, sailed by G. Dobson third, and June, sailed by I. Sharland, fourth. Fastest time was gained by June (49min 25sec). ,By winning this race Sea Mew won'the trophy, which is a marine study of four schooners under full sail. She also won the Cook Shield, which is awarded for the most points gained during the season. The points for the Harris trophy were: —Sea Mew 10,.Rose 8, Sea Sprite 6, and June 5, while the points for the Cook Shield were: Sea Mew 23, Valkyrie 17, Spartan 17, Snipe 17, Scandal 16.
