MR J. M. ROBERTSON
Mr James M. Robertson, whose death occurred in Dunedin this week, was born in Ross-shire, Scotland, and was the third son of the late Mr John Robertson, of Mounteagle Fearn, Easter Ross. He was educated at the Tain Royal Academy and' for a time was engaged in clerical work in Tain. In 1898 he landed at Dunedin and found clerical employment at the Clydevale Estate of the New Zealand and Australian Land Company and later at the Levels Estate, Timaru, where he made a study of wool and skins. For a number of years from 1904 he was
wool manager at Napier for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile AgencyCompany, Ltd., and later at Wanganui for the Hawera Farmers' Co-oper-ative Association, Ltd., and at Pahiatua he managed Messrs Wilson and Canham's business. In 1923 he was transferred to Dunedin, taking charge of the last-named firm's Otago and Southland business. In 1911 Mr Robertson married Miss Mary Cunningham, daughter of the late Mr C. A. Cunningham, of Round Hill, North Canterbury, and there are three daughters —Misses Avery, Joy, and Patty Robertson. A brother (Mr R. M. Robertson) lives in New Zealand, and a widowed sister ("Mrs A. M. Fraser) in London. His eldest brother (Major W. J. Robertson, of the 4th Seaforth Highlanders) was killed in the Great War at Neuve Chappell in 1915.
