COTTAGE EXTENSIVELYDAMAGED A lire which started when some floor polish was being mixed over a gas range badly damaged the rear part of a three-roomed cottage situated at 273 Colombo street last evening. The Central Fire Brigade was summoned at 8.18 p.m., but when it arrived the fire had obtained a good hold. The house, which was occupied by Mr S. G. Hazeldine, was insured, but the contents, which were also badly damaged, were uninsured. HOUSE COMPLETELY GUTTED An unoccupied four-roomed wooden house situated at 111 Smith street. Woolston, was completely gutted by fire last evening. The Central Fire Brigade was summoned at 10.10 p.m., but when it arrived the fire was burning strongly. GORSE FIRE OUT OF CONTROL A fire which was started to burn off some gorse in a vacant section in Lyttelton street, Spreydon, yesterday afternoon, got out of control, and the Central Fire Brigade was called. The brigade had no difficulty in putting out the blaze, which, however, slightly damaged a glasshouse adjoining.
