BROADCASTING CRICKET

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PBESS. Sir, I trust it is not too late to suggest to the Broadcasting Board that for the forthcoming Plunket Shield match it should get someone who not only understands the game but is interested enough in it to try to make it interesting to others. Something more is wanted than the statement that the bowler is running up to the wicket, the batsman has driven the ball back to the bowler, and that no run was scored off that ball. That is about what we got in the North-South match. Incidents of the match, the attendance, the placing of the field, and the work of "the same were all passed by as of no consequence. Moreover, when the switch-over took place listeners had a long wait before the announcer got on to his job. There is room for much improvement.—Yours, etc.. H. R. WILKINSON. February 15, 1935.
