NORTH LINWOOD BURGESSES

«. .MONTHLY MEETING HELD A medium of (he North Linwood Burgesses' Association was held last evening at the Lin wood School. Mr T. H. Butterfield was in the chair. The secretary reported that lie had been approached by residents of Kerr's road regarding the placing of a sidechannel on the road. The residents paid £IOO to the council in rates and felt that they were entitled to .some consideration. At present there was only an untidy drain on the road. A letter was received from the district telegraph engineer, stating that the work of moving the public telephone box at the Dallinglon bridge to the corner of Gloucester street and Woodham road, as had been requested by the association, was now under way and would soon be completed. The Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville) wrote stating Dial the request of the association for attention to the north side of Rolleston street and Linwood avenue had been considered by the works committee and would be given attention at the consideration of next year's estimates. A reply was received from the manager of the Tramway Board (Mr F. Thompson) to the association's request that the roadway and tracks in Worcester street should be attended to. It was stated that the association could assist by writing to the Minister for Public Works pointing out the bad condition of the road and expressing the hope that the order-in-council authorising the board to remove the tracks and make good the road might be expedited. It was also stated that tenders had been called for the supply of buses. The type of bus had not been decided, as the Minister for Transport was at present being urged to remit the special taxation on trolleybuses, which made the costs more than were formerly estimated. It was decided to make a request to the Minister, as suggested by the general manager, and to forward a copy to the chairman of the Tramway Board. It was also decided to write to the Tramway Board asking what mode of transport would be used in the event of the removal of the tracks, and what routes would be traversed. There was a brief discussion of the street-lighting in Linwood avenue.
