PRINCE LEAVES FIJI
♦ — SUCCESSFUL FISH DRIVE ROYAL VISITOR HELPS WITH NET (TTHITI* FBXSS ASSOCIATION—BT BLICTBIO TELEGRAPH— COPTBIQHT.) (Received February 5, 10.40 p.m.) SUVA, February 5. Yesterday the Duke of Gloucester visited the island of Beqa, 20 miles south of Suva, where the fire-walk-ing ceremony which was performed in his honour greatly impressed him. Later in the day he took part in a fish drive, and was so interested that he jumped overboard from a whaleboat and assisted in hauling in a net in which were more than 100 fish. Last night there was a dance in the Town Hall for the petty officers and men of H.M.A.S. Australia, while the Duke attended a private dance at Government House. This morning the Duke and his party left in the Australia for Apia. Among those on the wharf to say good-bye were the Governor, the Mayor, and officials. The guard of honour included European, Fijian, and Indian troops, and constabulary.
