SOUTH BRIGHTON PROGRESS LEAGUE
* _ ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting and election of officers of the South Brighton Progress League was held in the Bridge street hall last evening. Mr F. S. Woodward, the president, was in the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. The annual report, which with the balance-sheet, was adopted, stated that 14 new members had been elected during the year. Regret was expressed at the death of Mr \V. Rogers, a pioneer member of the league, and of the borough overseer. Mr J. Wilson. The balance-sheet shows total receipts £37 12s 3d, and after meeting liabilities there was a credit balance of £lO 18s 3d. The card evenings showed a loss of £2 13s, which amount was transferred from the league account, and the evenings discontinued. The fourth annual Christmas tree account shows a credit balance of 5s lOd. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr F. S. Woodward; vice-presidents, Messrs R. Campbell. P. Buist, C. Sawtell, and A. Taylor; secretary, Mr F. W. Larcomb'e; vigilance committee, Messrs A. Lawson, P. Buist, G. Duncan, and F. S. Woodward; honorary auditors, Messrs H. Robinson and A. Hulmc; executive, Mesdames G. Weavers, G. Duncan, w' Rogers, and Messrs R. L. Robinson and C. Duncan; honorary auditors, Messrs H. Robinson and A. Hulme. Consideration was given to a letter in which the town clerk (Mr C T Middleton) stated that the New Brighton Borough Council resolved "that having received and considered tenders for the reconstruction of the sidechannels in Estuary road and Beatty street, it is deemed to be inadvisable to proceed with the work at present" On the motion of Mr A. Hulme it was decided that the attention of the health authorities be drawn to the condition of the drain at the corner of Beatty street and Estuary road.
