DISTRIBUTION OF TRAM STOPS
PROPOSED CHANGE IN COLOMBO STREET A redistribution of tram stops along Colombo street south is at present being considered by the Works and Traffic Committee of the Christchurch Tramway Board. It is proposed that the stop known as 88, between Tennyson street and Devon street, should be eliminated. This stop is only eight chains from Tennyson street, and this distance is considered to be too short. Under the proposed distribution there will be five stops between Tennyson and Brougham streets, including the stops at those streets, instead of six stops as at present. If the change is made there will be a general evening up of the distances between stops along this section of Colombo street. At present the tram stops at stop 88, 81 chains from Tennyson street, at Devon street, 11 j chains farther on, at Milton street (16 chains), at Hastings street (11 chains), and at Brougham street (71 chains). The redistribution provides for stops at Smollett and King streets instead of at Devon and Milton streets, and the distances between stops would then be 17 chains, 131 chains. 141 chains, and 71 chains.
