The continued spell of dry weather has considerably reduced the flow of water in the Ashley river, and several of the upper tributaries, including the Makerikeri river and the larger v creeks have now practically ceased to feed the main water-ways. Numerous trout have beep left stranded, in the holes of the smaller water courses and in several parts of the river in almost still water, dead fish can be seen. On Saturday engineers at the Ashley river protection works camp at the Ashley bridge took from a fast drying hole near the camp 400 trout up to 31b in weight, and put them in a deep hole which led into the main stream of the river.
