The oldest woman ever to have made the ascent, Mrs Chequer, aged 65 years, climbed to the summit of Mount Egrraont. Fourteen hours were occupied on the outward and return journey, including several stops on the way. Under the guidance of Messrs C. Dingle and D. Lee, Mrs Chequer left Dawson Falls at 5.40 a.m., reaching Fantham's Peak at 10.10 a.m. A short stay was made at the Syme Hut, the party setting out again at 11 a.m. to reach the top at 3.20 p.m. Although she found the climbing exhausting Mrs Chequer was firm in her intention to reach the top. Actually she found the descent more trying than the '.ascent. *
