FRIDAY (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) THEFT Talbot Wight Smith (Mr K. J. McMenamin) pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness and not guilty to a charge of stealing a bicycle, valued at £7, from Frank Otto Mathieson at Addington on Thursday. Sub-Inspector D. A. Maclean said that Smith took the bicycle from outside a shop when intoxicated. On the first charge Smith was fined 10s, in default 24 hours' imprisonment; on the second charge he was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs, being given seven days in which to pay. Harry Thomas Betts, aged 37. and George Benyon Carey, aged 33, 'were jointly charged with stealing from Charles Fitzgerald, on January 15, a suitcase and contents, together with £3 in money, the total value being £9 10s. They were remanded until January 25, bail being allowed to Carey, himself in £SO and one surety of £SO. TRAFFIC CASES (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) Thomas) was charged with failing to give way to traffic on the right. Voluntary Appearances—The following, who made voluntary appearances, were fined for breaches of the traffic regulations and ordered to pay costs: — For cycling without a light: Leo Callan, Douglas Brownlie Weir, Herbert Crew, 15s. For driving a motor-car with insufficient lights: William Gordon Tuliock, 15s; Edward Curry, 10s; Basil Howard Heald, William Simpson, ss. For cycling on the footpath: Frank Bowyer was fined 10s and Thomas Tait the same amount. For driving an unlicensed motor-car Douglas Gordon Overend was fined £l. They were ordered to pay costs.
