PRESENTATION TO RESCUER OF CHILD
The residents of the Pines Beach, Kaiapoi, made a presentation to Mrs E. C. Ball, as appreciation of her rescue of a small child from drowning at the Pines recently.' The presentation was made at a social evening held in the hall last week. About a fortnight ago Betty Garrett, a child of four years, fell into the creek at the Pities. She was saved from drowning only by the prompt action of Mrs Ball. At the social Mr A. Linklater, president of the Pines Beach Association, and Mr L. P. Hopkins, its secretary, spoke, and a letter commending Mrs Ball's performance was read from the Kaiapoi Borough Council. The father of the child, Mr Garrett, also thanked Mrs Ball. The wife of the president, Mrs Linklater, made the presentation—an engraved clock—which was bought with subscriptions from residents at the Pines.
