HIPPODROME

OPEN-AIR THEATRE AT NEW BRIGHTON New Brighton is following the lead of English and Continental wateringplaces in having outdoor entertainment. The miniature golf course at the tram terminus has been transformed into an open-air theatre, and on Boxing Day will commence a series of interesting and entertaining al fresco concerts. The main attraction is the appearance of Delgado, the trapeze artist whose work in that direction has called forth the plaudits of the crowds and press, while his slide of death is described as one of the greatest thrills ever seen in this country. Delgado will appear at matinee and evening performance each day until further notice. At the matinee on Boxing Day there will be an excellent programme of vaudeville talent, with magic, juggling, dancing, and comedy. In addition there will be a fancy dress parade for the children, when a special prize will be given for the best suit or dress made of brown paper. For the evening programme, in addition to Delgado with his sensational act, and full vaudeville numberr. there will be the Canterbury championships for tug-of-war. So far 40 men are competing for the championship, and the controlling association considers the teams so evenly matched that there will be a great struggle for supremacy. Patrons can rest assured, states the management, that all the essentials of a theatre are present at the Hippodrome, with the addition of being in the open-air during the summer weather and sheltered from the easterly winds, should the wind be from that quarter.
