SAND CASTLES AND KINGS

Playing "King Canute" Here is a good, healthy game to play on the beach when the tide is coming in and the waves are not too big. Dig a fairly deep hole about 10 yards above the advancing sea and with the sand build a strong wall in the boat shape shown —the shells pointing towards the sea. By the time it is properly constructed and the "bow"

protected with shells, as shown. the sea will be lapping round it and the little waves will gradually eat away the walls as they advance; the idea is to see how long you can keep the water out. It becomes gradually more difficult to keep the walls in repair as each wave recedes and it is food furi and great exercise. Competition, between two "forts" provides ' the best fun.
