RAM AND BULL MEAT CARCASES TO BE SPECIALLY BRANDED

Regulations requiring carcases of rams or bulls intended for human consumption to be marked with a special brand are published in the latest issue of the New Zealand Gazette. It was recently stated in the House of Representatives that old rams and bulls w-re being slaughtered and sold as meat in Wellington, and the Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, subsequently stated that immediate action would be taken to see that such carcases were marked with the word "ram" or "bull" as the case might be. ' . , , , . That undertaking is backed up by the authority of an Order-m-Council by the regulations now issued. The regulations provide that the carcase of every ram and bull which upon inspection is passed as suitable tor consumption within New Zealand shall, in addition to any other brand or mark required by the regulations under its Slaughtering and Inspection Act to be affixed to any such carcase, be branded or marked by the inspector or under his authority with a brand or mark bearing the word "ram" or "bull" as the case may be Every such brand or mark shall be affixed to each quarter and to each side of every carcase at a point approximately in the centre of the outer side of every such portion of the carcase.
