MOTOR-CYCLIST STRUCK BY TRAIN

A motor-cyclist, William Kane, a son of Mr D. Kane, Peraki street, Kaiapoi, collided with the Parnassus to Christchurch passenger train about 5.15 p.m. on Saturday, at the Peraki street railway crossing, Kaiapoi. Kane, who was approaching the crossing from the south, had pulled up and was attempting to get the motorcycle clear of the line when struck by the engine. The motor-cycle was completely wrecked and Kane suffered severe bruises and abrasions and a fracture of the left leg near the ankle. He was attended by Dr. Maxwell Ramsay, placed on the train, to the Papanui railway station, where he was met by the St. John Ambulance and taken to the Christchurch Hospital, from where, after receiving further treatment, he was conveyed to his home.

MOTOR-CYCLE AND CAR COLLIDE George Davis, of 196 Antigua street, was thrown from his motor-cycle wfhen it came into collision with a motor-car at the corner of Madras street and Salisbury street about 8 p.m. yesterday. He was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital by the St. John Free Ambulance. He is suffering from injuries to his head, back and legs, and it is possible that his spine is also hurt. Through a motor-car which he was driving colliding with a tram late.last night, George Brown, a single man, aged 38, is lying in hospital with severe head injuries, and is not expected to recover. Another man, Fred Glover, who was a passenger in the car, suffered a lacerated hand, but his injuries are not serious. BOY DROWNED (PRESS ASSOCIATIOK TELEGBAIt.) DUNEDIN, December 23. A boy, George Frederick Robert Hall, was drowned at Waitahuna while bathing this morning. In company with several others Hall had gone to bathe in an old dredge hole. Hall, who could not swim, was paddling about in shallow water, when he stepped into a deeper part of the hole, and was soon beyond his depth. One of the other lads, noticing his plight, seized hold of him, but was forced to let go. and the boy drifted out into deeper water, and was drowned. The body was recovered later. GORED BY RILL (riUSS AJSOCIATIOR TELIOEAM.) DUNEDIN, December 23. Thomas Perry had a narrow escape from death on Saturday when he was gored by a bull. Perry, who is a single man, aged 36, was haymaking at Highcliff when a bull came into the paddock in which he was working. Perry attempted to drive it away with a fork, and believing that he had succeeded he turned round, and began to walk away.

The bull, however, turned back, and charged Perry from behind, and threw him to the ground. Fortunately, Perry, who was alone at the time, retained hold of his fork. Using this as a spear, he drove the points into, the bull's nose, and chased it off. In the encounter Perry suffered deeply lacerated wounds on a thigh, and was admitted to hospital later in the day.

DIVED INTO SHALLOW WATER

YOUNG MAN INJURED AT NEW PLYMOUTH (,I'RESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 23. Dislocation of the neck and concussion of the spine with the possibility of a fracture were suffered by a young man, James Farquhar, when he dived into shallow water in the surf to-day. Farquhar ran down to the water's edge with a companion, and plunged in, striking the edge of the sand. His companion missed Farquhar for a few seconds, and found him lying under water. He was conscious, but practically paralysed. He was carried to his home on a surfboard, and later taken to hospital. A preliminary Xray examination disclosed dislocation of the spine and severe concussion, but not a fracture. The doctor fears, however, I hat a fracture will be disclosed later.

FATAL INJURIES (TRBSS ASSOCIATIOH TELEGBAM-) AUCKLAND, December 23. The death occurred on Saturday of Mrs Eileen Fussell, of Parnell, who suffered concussion and other head injuries through a fall down a flight of steps on Friday night.

TRACTOR DRIVER KILLED (FRI3R ASSOCIATION TEUORAM.) • GORE. December 22. James Scott, a married man, fell from the tractor he was driving this morning and was fatally injured. One of the rear wheels passed over him. He was taken to hospital, where he died this afternoon. Scott was employed by ETeming and Company, and was driving the tractor in the Gore railway yards at the time of the accident.
