Waimairi School A large number of children assembled at the Waimairi School on Thursday evening, when a cinematograph entertainment was given by Mr C. E. Evans. Before the screening the swimming certificates were presented as follows! —220 yards: Desmond Tomkies, Melville Sturrock, Kenneth Smith, Donald Hill. 50 yards: Dora Jones, Raymond Sturrock, Bert Franklyn, Keith McMillan, Ronald Longley, Geoffrey Longley, Graham Clark, Maxwell Warren, and Walter Wilkinson. Card Evenings The Waimairi Rugby League Social Club concluded the year's activities with a euchre tournament and dance on Wednesday. There was a large attendance. The results were:—Women: Mrs Ellman 1, Mrs Munro 2, Mrs W. Smallbon 3. Men: Mr Kingston 1, Mr R. G. Morrison 2, Mrs C. Cooper 3. Music for the dance was supplied by Mrs C. Smith. Mr Alan Smith was master of ceremonies. The prizewinners in a competition were: Mr A. J. Lee 1, Mr S. Robinson 2, Mr R. Shirley 3, Mr D. Donald 4, Mr Alex Smith 5. At the Papanui Horticultural Society's card evening on Wednesday, held in the Memorial Hall, the placings were: Mrs J. L. Neilsen 1, Mrs C. Biggs 2, and Mr C. Biggs 3. Mr S. Clark was the winner of a competition. Dance At the fortnightly dance of the Advance Northeote Association there was a large attendance. Music was supplied by Miss Jean Harding, and extras were played by Mr Ron Neville. Mr S. Munro was master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo was won by Mrs Drummond and Mr J. Clark; a luckyspot dance by Miss Kathleen Harding and Mr Jack Fair.
