MATSON and CO. report tho total »M(ry was in tho vicinity o£ 5:150, which im-ludes hoggets, lint the latter class were forward in very small numbers. Woolly sheep were conspicuous by their absence, and tlie quality over tho whole yarding was firs Iclass. Many consignments of well finished wethers were on offer, and also some excellent extra heavy fat ewes. Freezing: buyers were wading in for all wethers fully up to sehedulo prices, but were not very interested in fat ewes. However, butchers, owing to the increased price of wctlier mutton, were more inclined to give consideration to good ewes, resulting in the opening rates being up to last week's schedule, nnd the sale was progressing keenly up until the time of writing. It looks very rjnicli as though tho good sale will continue to the finish, as to-day's auction is being conducted at a good pace. Final report: Ewes up to Js better and wethers well up to last week. MATSON and CO. report: —Among the nevural factors responsible for a good sale nnd an unsatisfied demand in this section to-day was the warmer weather following bounteous rain and considerable improvement in pastures. Stock is doing, as a result, exceptionally well on the hardened feed. Freezing buyers are drafting throughout tho country, and although perhaps no large quantites arc being obtained, farmers are in tho market to replace and get sheep while conditions are favourable. Keen competition was the order of the day, the market being a shado firmer all round than that of last week, and practically the whole of the entry was sold by auction. The entry consisted of 059 wether hoggets, 338 Corriedale wethers, ex the north; 150 merino and comeback wethers, 52 two and four-tooth shorn ewes, 38 two-tooth ewes, 108 owes in the wool, with 10-> lambs at foot, making a tolal of 1473. Wether hoggets made from 15s (hi to Us Id. according to condition; Corriedale wethers, four, six. and eight-tooth, from lis Sd to 10s od; merino wclhers from '.ls Od to Us; two and four-toot.!, ewes made 'Jl:* fid; two-tooth ewes made -2s 3d; shorn ewes and lambs (only small lots on offer) made 8s lOd, 10s <Jd, wiiii one good little lot at 13s 7d. A splendid line of 00 halfbred owes in tho wool, with very forward lambs lit foot, changed hands at 17s Id. Practically tho wholo entry, with the exception of the ewes nnd lambs mentioned, were not of a very high standard. FAT CATTLE. 11.
