OBITUARY

<j> MR J. SHAW Mr J. Shaw, whose death occurred recently, was well known in musical and other circles in Christchurch. He was a native of Nelson. Lancashire, England, and was 48 years of age. Mr Shaw came to Christchurch about five years ago, and being the possessor ot a pleasing tenor voice, he became known soon as a vocalist, and also as a teacher of singing. Up to a year ago Mr Shaw was choirmaster at Trinity Congregational Church. On the retirement a year ago of Mr Alfred Worslcy as conductor of the Canterbury Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association's concert party, Mr Shaw succeeded him, and his services in that position were greatly appreciated. He was a member of the male quartet, known as the "Harmony Four," which, in addition to appearances on the concert platform, frequently gave selections from the broadcasting stations. Mr Shaw took a part in the production last year of the comic opera "Les Cloches de Corneville." He is survived by a widow and one son. Brodio, formerly chief postmaster at Napier and at one time accountant at the chief post office, Auckland, aI. the age of 02 years. Mr Brodio joined the Fost and Telegraph Department in 181)1 at Wellington. He was then sta' ied in Oamaru for four years, after which he was transferred to Auckland, where he served en flu- clerical stall' for 10 years. In 11)00 he was transferred to Invereargill. where he remained [or several years, being then appointed accountant at. Auckland. In 1925 he was promoted to New Plymouth, where he served for three and a half year:-, and he was then appointed chief postmaster at Napier, being there in that capacity at the time of the earthquake.
