SURF LIFE-SAVING

CANTKRBI'KY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING HEM) 'l'ln: annual meeting of I lie Canter-, bury Surf Life-Saving Association was held last night, the retiring president (Mr D. V. Wilson) being in the chair. Messrs C. J. Kite and K. J. Herriotl, new delegates representing the South Brighton and Sumner Clubs, were welcomed by the president. The annual report and balance-sheet, summaries of which have been published in "The Press." were adopted. Speaking to the annual report, Mr Wilson dealt with the attitude of the association to the New Zealand Surf Association. Canterbury had ottered its whole-hearted co-operation, and he thought the result would be that lifesaving would be placed in a position where. instead of being taken as a matter of course. it would command respect. It was the duty of the delegates, however, to see that the association at all i times preserved its strength and independence, and did not allow itself to be subject to unnecessary domination. He did not suggest for one moment, he said, that the association's attitude should be one that would upset the friendly relationship now existing with the New Zealand Association, but, he would regret, after all the work, particularly over the last eight to 10 years, to see anything done that would reduce the status of the association. He wished no inference derogatory lo the New Zealand Association to be taken from his remarks, Mr Wilson said. Officers Elected The elect ion of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr F. D.
