BOY SCOUTS

DOMINION COUNCIL MEETS FAREWELL TO LORD BLEDISLOE U'RISS ABBOCIATIOM TEISOBAM.) WELLINGTON, November 21. Farewell to the Chief Scout for New Zealand (Lord Bledisloe) was said by the Dominion Council of the Boy Scouts' Association, when his Excellency attended its annual meeting today, and he was decorated with the honorary Order of Merit. • Lord Bledisloe, in an address, deprecated advice given to youth to-day to live dangerously, by way, apparently, of an expression of revolt against undue restraint, which might hamper self-expression or the due devolopment of genius. Surely those cssociated with the Scout movement, he said, while deprecating undue restraint, would be more inclined, instead of living dangerously, to say to live adventurously; in other words, to exercise a due amount of ambition, enterprise, and resourcefulness, and make their life as full as possible within the limits of self-restraint, self-discipline, and adherence to the foundation principles upon which all rectitude was built. He rejoiced that the Scout movement was firm in its adherence to the doctrine of faith. Mr J. R. Kirk was re-elected chairman of the council. The Rev. W. H. Orbell and Mr G. W. Bishop, the retiring members of the council, were re-elected. Sir George Wilson (Auckland), Sir Joseph Smith (Auckland), and Air Marshal Sir Robert ClarkHall (Christchurch) were elected to the council. Monsign'or T. O. F. Connolly said he was a little worried by an amendment in the rules. The control of Roman Catholic scouts had been handed to the St. Vincent de Paul Society as the most suitable body to control them, and then an amendment ap-

parently preventing such an arrai#merit had been made. [. The chairman (Mr Kirk) said sg an arrangement was definitely agiw* the rules, and had been previoaigj but the St. Vincent de Paul SocietF members could fill the controUwi positions in Roman Catholic t™s and the same end would be achiCT**; It was decided that all the memof* of the party going to the Melboun* Jamboree should revert to the rWS* of scout, and that the officers un«» Commissioner J. R. H. will be in charge, should be appoint* from them to hold temporary 1&*: Special jamboree commissions «W • be conferred. It is stated that *P would go, and that they would * away for about five weeks. The M» Zealand encampment will be laid cw on the lines of a Maori pa. and eaw tent will be decorated to resembi* * Maori whare.
