Miss Betty Aircl (Christchurch) is the guest of Miss Frances Davies. 'Borne Creek," Waiau. Nurse E. Bacon has returned to 45 Bealey avenue after spending several months in the North Island. ' Miss Threlkeld returned to Christchurch recently after an absence of four years in England. Mrs Duncan Rutherford (Leslie Hills) is visiting Christchurch and is staying at Warwick House. Mrs T\ T. Thompson and Miss Eunoe Thompson will leave Christchurch in March for Sydney, where they will join the Orontes for a trip to Britain. Honore and family (Papanui), who have been abroad (for several months, returned by the lonic which arrived in Wellington on Thursday. Major-General H. J. P. Browne, C.8., a retired Indian Army officer, accompanied by Mrs Browne, arrived at Wellington from England by the Ruabine and are now visiting Christchurch and are staying at Warwick Housed General Browne, who is a keen fisherman, has formerly visited Christchurch. Passengers for Lytlelton on board the lonic which arrived in Wellington on Thursday included the Rev. and Mrs N. E. Oakley and family, Mr B. Utiwin and Mr'D. P. Walker. Mesdames Lowery and Strickland (Wellington) are visiting Christchurch where thry will be spending a few days with Mrs Lowery's daughter, Mrs Dalgety, before going to Hanmer Springs. Mr and Mrs A. Stocker (Spotswood) are visiting Christchurch and are staying at Warwick House. Dr. Helen Simpson, who left Christchurch for England early this year, has returned to the Dominion and is at present visiting in Karamea. Miss Jane Wendcn, formerly of Craighead School, Timaru, who has been studying domestic scioncv in London, will return to the Dominion in January. Mrs J. A. Doctor (Wellingtor) president of the Kindergarten Union, is the guest of Mrs R. Kennedy, Littlebourne, Dunedin. Miss Helen Cox (Kowai Bush\ who has been visiting Mrs Thacker. St. Andrew's square, has returned home. Mrs Walker, wife of Dr. F. Walker, of St. Andrews University, Scotland, has arrived in Dunedin to spend the summer with her mother, Mrs J. G. Alexander, St. Clair. Misses Olive and Rae Scott ("Kenwyn," Bealey avenue) are spending a holiday at Godley House, Diamond Harbour. Miss Reay Trolovc ("The Shades," Marlborough) is the guest of Miss Dorothy Roberts, Dunedin. Mrs Clark and Miss Rita Clark (Christchurch) are spending a few weeks at the Cafe, New Brighton. The annual dance recital by the pupils of Miss Enid Lawson will be held at the Radiant Hall on Wednesday, November 21, at 8 p.m. A bright and varied programme of songs and ballets is promised. Among the singers will be Mr Douglas Suckling, Miss Norma Sturrock, and Miss Greta Archer. Miss Olive C. Anderson has notified the Board of Managers of the Petone Memorial Technical School of her intention to resign at the end of the year from her position as home science instructress. Miss Anderson has been in the service of the board for the last four years. i Mrs Wilson, C.8.E., widow of Dr. Edward Wilson, the famous scientist, who was a member of Scott's Antarctic Expedition, will arrive in Christchurch to-day. Mrs Wilson, who has done much war work in London, has recently been travelling in Rhodesia, Malay States and Australia. Miss Emily McCosker (Ashburton) has left lor Invercargili, where she will enter the Karitane-Hunt Hospital as a trainee. Mrs Denys Hoare (Kilmore street west) will leave to-day for a visit to Hanmer Springs. Mrs Richard Moore (Cashmere Hills) has returned from a visit to Wellington. Miss Eileen O'Meeghan (Timaru; who has been the guest of Miss Agnes Barrett. "Gresford," Papanui, has returned home. Miss Ann Cooper (Brown's road) will leave to-day to visit Miss Betty Murray, "Woodbank," Clarence Bridge. Later she will stay with her cousin, Mrs Bryan Trolove, "Paripawa," Marlborough. Mrs Andrew Guild (Timaru) and Miss Willis (Dicton) are guests at Warwick House. The lady missioners of the Church Army, in their caravan, paid a visit to Yaldhurst last week and conducted short mission services at St. Luke's Church. Sister K. North and Sister E. Childs conducted the services. Lantern lectures were held in the schoolroom. During their visit all parishioners were visited and the nightly services were very well attended.

AFTERNOON PARTY i Miss Elisabeth Morris, whose marriage will take place early next year, was honoured yesterday afternoon at a very enjoyable party given by Miss Eunoe Thompson at her home in Papanui road. The hostess wore a pretty frock of white and blue patterned crepe de chine and Miss Morris wore a deep delphinium blue frock, with frilled jabot of white organdi, and a beige straw hat. The reception rooms were gay with roses, sweet peas, and Iceland poppies, and each guest brought for Miss Morris a gift for the bathroom in her new home. An interesting musical competition was won by Miss-Dorothy Loughnan, with Miss Peggy Loughnan second. The guests were Misses Morris, Peggy Loughnan (Lower Hutt), Dorothy Loughnan, Nancy Gard'ner, Joan Gard'ner. Barbara Bloxam. Katie Polemedis, Joyce Mac Gibbon, Joan Turnbull. PARTY AT FENDALTON Mrs Richard Hamilton (Fendalton') was hostess at a very pleasant flag bridge party, given in honour of Miss Roie de Pass, whose marriage will take place on November 28, Each guest brought for Miss de Pass a blue gift for the bathroom of her new home. The winners of the prize for bridge were Mrs Andrew Todd, Miss de Pass, and Miss Joyce Mac Gibbon. Those who enjoyed Mrs Hamilton's hospitality were Mrs F. N.
