ACCIDENT IN TRAFFIC TUNNEL
CLAIM FOR DAMAGES FAILS (I'KESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, November 16. An accident in the Hataitai traffic tunnel, when a lad of 17, who was cycling home, was severely injured in a collision with a motor-car, was the subject of an action for damages brought before a common jury in the Supreme Court to-day. The Chief Justice (the Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers) was on the bench. Damages totalling £905 lis 6d were unsuccessfully claimed by Patrick Whitman, through his father, J. F. Whitman, a relief worker, from Ivan Edward Rawnsley, a motor dealer, of Lower Hutt. The accident occurred about seven months ago. The boy was cycling through the tunnel when a motor horn sounded behind, and a car collided with him. The rider's thigh
was broken, and the leg had to be permanently shortened. The jury found that there was no negligence on the defendant's part.
