WHAT A REPORTER HEARD YESTER DAY MORNING There was a scene of much activity at Hay's Limited yesterday when a reporter called to see Mr J. L. Hay, the Managing Director. Impressed with all he saw going on, the reporter asked, "Why all the activity?" "Well," said Mr Hay,""Mo- t day next is an important date with us. It's our birthday, and we're going to celebrate it in great style. It was just a year ago that Hay's were within an ace of closing down due to the action of the liquidator of Macky, Logan, Caldwell Ltd. A group of Christchurch business men, realising that such a step was unnecessary, formed a new company and since then Hay's have forged ahead." "What are 'you planning to do." asked the reporter? "Well," said Mr Hay, "we appreciate how splendidly the public have supported us, and from Monday next we are going to show our appreciation by giving a wonderful lot of bargains in all departments. Just look for our advertisement in Monday's 'Press,' and you will see what a great time the public are going to have next week. Then we've made a monster birthday cake, and every customer is going to get a piece. It's a rattling good cake, too. Ernest Adams Ltd. have excelled themselves." "Well," said the reporter, "you're a great bunch here; you're always up to some stunt or another; you deserve to succeed." "Thanks," said Mr Hay, "but wait till you hear about our Christmas attractions for the youngsters. They'll go crazy about them."
