The recent proposal by the Auckland Harbour Board to name channels in the Hauraki Gulf was not approved by the hydrographer to the Admiralty, who', according to a letter received at this week's meeting of the board, considered that such a multiplicity of names would tend to confuse rather than to facilitate sailing directions. While not agreeing that there was a multiplicity of names, the harbourmaster. Captain H. H. Sergeant, advised the board that in order to meet tho hydrographer's views, Jellicoe Channel should be continued to Takatu Point, that Craddock Chan- ™ , sh ?^ ld extend from between Moko Hmau Island and the Little Barrier on the western side, and the Great Barrier on the eastern side and that Bledisloe Channel should be substituted for Dald<> Channel. The board decided to forward the harbourmaster's suggestions to the Marine Department.
