A PRIEST FOR 25 YEARS
FATHER A. L. BURGER LONG CONNEXION WITH STi BEDE'S COLLEGE The Very Rev. Father A. L. Burger, S.M., M.A., rector of St. Bede's College, will celebrate on Wednesday the silver jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood. Old boys of the college intend to mark the occasion by the presentation of an address to Father Burger on Wednesday evening. A Mass for departed old boys will be ' said at the college on Wednesday | morning. 1 Father Burger has been connected I With the college since 1914 and head- 1 master since 1930. He was born at V. Kurnara and educated at the Kuroara *"| Convent School, St. Patrick's College, I Wellington, and Canterbury University I College, where ,he graduated W»n I second class honours in History. He I was ordained on November 21, 19>w. > and was assistant priest at Waimate until 1914. For six months he was 8J St. Mary's, Manchester street, ana then he joined the staff of what was then St. Bede's Collegiate Schooj, Ferry road. He was still a member of the staff when St. Bede's CollegeJ» Papanui was opened, but in I* B * Father Burger accepted a position » head of a college at Mittagong, New South Wales. He remained there untj} 1929, when he returned to the staff » . St. Bede's College. On the death <» the Rev. Father T. A. Gilbert, S.M., ff the following year Father Burger vw appointed headmaster of the col]e{«; He is a member of the executive of «* Association of Heads of Register* 1 Secondary Schools of New Zealand. ; The Mass at the college on Wednefr day morning will be celebrated at •' o'clock, and the presentation to tag ' rector will take place at the colleg* B * 7.30 p.m. .- .'■
