FROM KHARTOUM TO AUSTRALIA
♦-- NEW ZEALANDER'S FLIGHT [THE TRESS Special Service.) WELLINGTON, November 15. Advice has been received by Mr A. Jarman, of Penrose street, Lower Hutt, that his son, Flying Officer G. T. Jarman, intends to fly from Khartoum (Africa) to Australia, via India. It is not known v/hether he has left although it was expected that he would begin his journey on November 1.
Flying Officer Jarman, who is 29, was "born at Ashburton, but lias spent most of his life at Lower Hult. After being educated at Wellesley College and Wellington College, he was engaged in Government surveying and four years ago he joined the Royal Air Force. He was trained at Digby, England, and' for two years has been attached to the 47th Bombing Squadron at Khartoum. He was one of the squadron which accompanied the Secretary of Stato for the Colonies, Sir Philip Gun-lifrc-Lister, on an extensive tour of North Africa, principally in Kenya. He will use an Avro machine on his flight, and he intends to travel home from Australia by boat. Flying Officer Jarman is a nephew of Mr H. E. Jarman, accountant of the Christchurch Tramway:, whose son is also an officer in the Royal Air Force.
