LONG FLIGHT PLANNED
❖ LOS ANGELES TO JAPAN UNCONVENTIONAL AEROPLANE (Received November 15, 11.55 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, November 15. Mr Monty Mason, ol' Los Angeles, has announced plans to take off on a non-stop flight from Los Angeles to Japan, 6400 miles, about December 1. Pie hopes to have Mr EmoryBronte as navigator. Pie plans to fly at an altitude of from 15,000 to 25,000 feet, making the trip in 37 hours. Mr Robert Sherman Ross, a wealthy Beverly Hills resident, is helping in backing the flight. Mr Mason will use a "flying wing" machine, an adaptation of one designed by the late Mr C. K. Vance. The aeroplane has a small twoseater cabin on top of a huge wing, 55 feet six inches long and 13 feet six inches at the widest point. Petrol tanks holding 115G gallons, radio equipment, and other essentials are housed in the big wing, and two outriggers lead to the tail section. Using a controllable pitch propeller, Mr Mason hopes to reach a speed of 250 miles an hour.
