ESTATE OF MR JOSEPH BUTLER WEST COAST HOSPITALS BENEFIT IFKKSS ASSOCIATION TELF.GBAM.) AUCKLAND, November 15. Under the will of Mr Joseph Butler, formerly managing director of the Kauri Timber Company, Ltd., at Melbourne, charitable bequests and gifts to organisations are made. For probate, the value of the estate has been sworn at less than £38,000. In addition to a large number of private bequests, Mr Butler left £2700 to be distributed as follows: —

Auckland Infirmary .. .. 500 Manurewa Children's Home .. 500 Westland Hospital, Hokitika .. 500 Butler, Brothers, Ltd., Ruatapu 500 Grey River Hospital, Greymouth .. .. 100 Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Auckland .. 100
The purpose of the bequest to Butler Brothers, Ltd., Ruatapu, is to promote the social life or improve the social conditions of the employees of the company.
Mr Butler died in London at the age of 72. Coming to New Zealand as a young man, he settled on the West Coast and was subsequently identified with timber interests in Westland and Northern Wairoa. He was managing director for New Zealand of the Kauri Timber Company for 13 years, before his appointment to Melbourne in 1027. He was president of the Auckland Club.
