BIG MANOEUVRES IN JAPAN

Outside news is eclipsed at present by spectacular army manreuvres which are being held in the £:ilk district, the plains and mountains to the north-west of Tokyo. The Emperor, mounted on his favourite charger Shirauyki (Snow White), is sharing hardships with ;he troops day and night, and the former War Minister, General Araki, s again in the limel->ht, commanding the Western Army against the '. Easterners. Both armies are using the most modern equipment, including aeroplanes which arsenals have been jusily turring out in recent years. Multitudes are watching from the hills. Police and plain clothes offi iiers have recently been most carefully examining foreign passengers --even old women—in the trains ;n the region of the manoeuvres.
