"RIBBON" DEVELOPMENT IN BRITAIN
I | RESTRICTION URGED | LETTER TO PRIME MINISTER (BBIIIMH Ori'IClAL WIKELE3S.) (Received November 12, 7.5 p.m.) RUGBY, November 10. A letter urging legislation to restrict so-called "ribbon" development along new 'roads, signed by prominent officials of motoring and other organisations, has been sent to Mr Ramsay Mac Donald (Prime Minister). The letter says that three out of four accidents to pedestrians, especially to young children, occur on roads fringed with houses. It states that ribbon development is changing for the worse the social structure in which increasing numbers of people live. The future shape of the country is declared to be at. stake.
