"1 think that this association should .have something of the missionary spirit; it should not confine its benefits to its financial members," declared the Rev. F. T. Read, president of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association, at the meeting of the executive of the association last evening, when Mr T. L. Drummond expressed the view that returned soldiers for whom the association's secretary appeared as advocate at sittings of the War Pensions Appeal Board should be prepared to join the association. He said that the office work of the association was dislocated for three weeks at each sitting of the board, and those who gained such benefits should be prepared to pay for them just as lodge members had to. On his motion the secretary was instructed to furnish a return showing the numbers of men for whom the secretary had appeared as advocate at sittings of the board who had subsequently joined the association.
