Mr A. L. Alexander travelled to Wellington last evening by tha steamer express. Dr. O. H. Frankel was a passenger for Wellington last evening by the steamer express. Cr. J. K. Archer, the DeputyMayor of Christchurch, inter ds leaving for the West Coast this morning. Mr W. G. Dallard, of the railways district engineer's office, Christchurch, has been transferred to the district engineer's office, Wanganui. Sullivan, M.P., who has been attending the Melbourne Centenary celebrations, is expected to return to Christchurch this morning. Mr M. J. Barnett, superintendent of city reserves, was accorded a vote of appreciation at the annual meeting of the Chri<-Muirch Beautifying Association last night. It was stated that his assistance in beautifying work in the city was greatly appreciated. Colonel S. C. P. Nicholls, D.5.0., N.Z.S.C. (O.C. Southern Command), left Christchurch yesterday for the south, where he will interview cadet candidates for the Royal Military College of Australia, and for the William Robert Friar memorial prize. The latter award is made to the best all-round cadet in the Dominion.

Mr Bertram Oxenbridge, who is a vestryman, chorister, and layreader at St. Michael's, has been offered ordination by the Bishop of Waikato, Dr. C. A. Cherrington. He will leave Christchurch early next week to prepare for ordination. He is the son of Mr George Oxenbridg'J and the late Mrs Oxenbridge, of St. Martins.

The staff of the District Health Office, Christchurch, recently assembled to do honour to Mr J, WHuggins, who has been appointed to the position of Chief City Inspector. Dr. T. Fletcher Telford, Medical Officer of Health, spoke of Mr Huggins's record of successful service in the department and on behalf of the staff wished him every success in his new position. He further made a presentation of a suitably inscribed gold wristlet watch on behalf of the staff.
