GREYMOUTH PERSONAL (special to the pbess.) GREYMOUTH, November 12. Miss D. Stopforth, Hokitika, returned on Saturday from a visit to Wellington. Mrs J. Hassall returned on Saturday from Christchurch. Mr and Mrs J. A. James returned on Saturday from Christchurch. Mr D. C. Milne returned on Saturday from Christchurch. " Mr W. Pring returned from Christchurch on Saturday. Mr H. Hamer, Kumara, returned on Saturday from a visit to Christchurch. Mr M. J. Fogarty returned on Saturday from Christchurch. Messrs C. F. Schadick and W. T. Slee returned to Westport from Christchurch on Saturday. Mr J. Hannan, of Invercargill, is visiting the West Coast. Armistice Day Armistice Day was observed at Greymouth yesterday. At 11 a.m. the two minutes' silence was observed. Wreaths were placed on the Tainui street Cenotaph by the Mayor (Mr J. W. Greenslade), on behalf of the Borough Council and the citizens, and by Messrs. A. H. McKane and T. P. Ryan, on behalf of the Returned Soldiers' Association. Reference to the occasion was made in the various churches.
Cricket Owing to rain setting in yesterday morning, the West Coast Cricket Association's senior competition matches were not played. In a friendly game at the Recreation Ground on Saturday Civil Servants defeated a United eleven. United made 186, of which de Freatus contributed 54, Mann 30, and Smyth 31. G. Howes bowled very well, taking four wickets for six runs. Public Servants made 204 runs, F. Bayley (54), L. Louisson (41), and Dhryberg (retired 34) being the chief scorers. Brooks (three for 31) was the most successful bowler.
In a third-grade match Technical gained a two-point win over Marist. Knapp (five for 21) was Technical's best bowler. Marist made 175 runs and Technical 191.
