RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association met last evening. There were present— The Rev. F. T. Read (president), Messrs W. E. Leadley, T. L. Drummond, A. W. Mewton, E. Orchard, J. A. East, A. L. Emerson, B. O. Priddis. C. Chisnall, C. Miln, W. H. Darby, and E. F; Willcox- (secretary). The report of the benevolent committee for the two weeks ended November 10 stated that 166 applications for assistance had been granted, a decrease in the weekly average of i» compared with the week ended October 27. One application was declined, j . . t On th<? motion of Mr Leadley » was decided to thank Mr M. Ross, Christchurch certifying officer for the Unemployment Board, for his courtesy ,y| in receiving a deputation regarding jr New Brighton returned soldiers who had been drafted to the Ashley camp, and the board for its action in placing the men on relief work. After discussion it was decided thai the ladies' auxiliary of the association should be entitled to two representatives on the benevolent committee. An amendment that the reqiiest oi the auxiliary be not acceded to > that a full report of each fortnightly meeting be supplied to the auxiliary was defeated by 6 votes to 5. : Messrs Darby and Leadley recoraea their votes against the motion. The employment officer (Mr R , oSpeirs). reported that in the fortnlgw ended November 10 there were «* registrations, of which five were new« A total of 373 days' subsidised wor* had been found for 264 men at a CO* to the association of £95 16s, www 28* days' work without subsidy xm been found ..;,.- The treasurer (Mr Mewton)«w*2l was satisfied that the association W> getting good value for its expendiUß" on subsidised work.
