THE ENGINEERING SCHOOL
SUGGESTION OF GRANT FROM ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT A suggestion that the Municipal Electricity Department should make a substantial annual grant to the Canterbury College School of Engineering was made yesterday morning by Mr T. Ross Burt, at the presentation to the college council of the portrait of Professor J. R. Scott. "In England many business firms regularly contribute to university engineering schools," said Mr Burt, "and it behoves the Christchurch City Council to give a lead to private citizens by giving a part of the large profits of the Municipal Electricity Department to the school of engineering. To keep the school up-to-date is the greatest tribute that could be paid to Professor Scott. It is for the people of Canterbury to see that it is well equipped, and to further this end by means of legacies and donations."
