The proposed legislation to restrict the breeding of Alsatian dogs was discussed at a meeting of the council of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association, when a letter was received from the New Zealand Kennel Club requesting the council's support in preventing the bill becoming law. The bill provides for the sterilisation of all Alsatian dogs within three months of its becoming law, stated the letter, and this would mean the immediate extinction of the breed for show pi" >ose:, as an unsexed dog can.iot be exhibited. Alsatians comprised a large number of entries at many of the club's shows, and were gradually coming into favour as workers of sheep and cattle. "If we go against Alsatians, this association will lose many friends." said Mr J. Mitchell. "I move that we leave the matter alone and take no action."' "It. has been proved that they arc a menace to the country," said Mr A. C. Trousdale. "It is our duty to support the bill." He adder' that Alsatians were a menace to children and to sheep farmers, and he moved an amendment that the association do all in its power to assist the passage of the bill. The amendment was carried.
